Developed and manufactured by the Slovak defence industry, 155mm self-propelled howitzer Zuzana 2 has demonstrated high effectiveness, accuracy, and mobility during the international military training conducted in Lithuania, one of NATO’s eastern flank countries.
On July 24-28, artillery troops of Lithuanian, Slovak, and United States armed forces conducted Exercise Barbara’s Resolve 23-II, which took place in one of the artillery training areas in Lithuania. It aimed to enhance interoperability between units using different artillery systems and test the conducting of joint defence operation.
According to Lithuanian Armed Forces, during the training, the US Army used the M109A6 Paladin howitzer, Lithuanian Land Forces – M50 artillery systems, and the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic – Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers. “M50s of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and M109A6 Paladins of the U.S. Armed Forces destroyed targets up to 10 km away, while Slovakia’s Zuzana 2 – up to 40 km away,” Lithuanian Armed Forces reported.
According to Lithuanian sources, the training participants were strongly impressed by the Zuzana 2 artillery system’s performance. As a wheeled self-propelled howitzer, it demonstrated high mobility in hard terrain and accurate indirect fire.
Similar opinions on the Zuzana 2 howitzer come from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which operate this artillery system to fight against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. During the high-intensity conflict in Ukraine, which often takes the form of artillery duels, Zuzana 2 howitzers prove themselves by destroying many high-valuable targets.
Slovakia has delivered a number of Zuzana 2 howitzers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (at least one of them was destroyed by the Russian army). However, the deliveries of additional howitzers are underway. Furthermore, in July, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a contract for another batch of 16 Zuzana 2 artillery systems was signed.
Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzer is a weapon system developed and manufactured by the Slovak defence industry. The manufacturer of this howitzer is Konstrukta Defence, a subsidiary of state-owned defence holding DMD Group.
